FIRST EVER REVIEW AS @vivi (January 19, 2023)

My first ever review to albumoftheyear.org was published on January 19, 2023. Never in my life would I have guessed the journey it would take me on - but I am forever thankful for this ignition of a writing spark I never knew I had in me until discovering the art of the music review. Since I uploaded that first review, my life has changed drastically - I'm older, more matured, and an even better writer than I could've ever imagined. I've always had a knack for vocabulary and reading comprehension, but I would've never guessed that it would lead me down a brand new path of wonderful opportunities.

My earliest reviews were nothing to marvel at by any means, but they're such an interesting thing to look back on - to see how much I have grown as both a person and a writer. I want to use this blog to chronical more than just music reviews - and I feel as if I can be more casual here on an informal blogging service rather than my website (https://lexywhitford.wixsite.com/vivis-discussion), which is hard to upload to (tedious) and desperately needs a rework.

I started off as @vixxverlice before changing accounts and renaming my account to simply @vivi in January of 2023. It seems like even longer ago that I began my journey to journalism - but I have learned so much about myself in the process of this time period.

My previous AOTY account was made in May of 2022, and I found a passion for reviewing music as I enjoyed doing so a big amount. I have been a huge music fanatic for a very long time, so finding a website where I could display all of my beloved albums and opinions was something so incredible to me - and it still manages to hold that same value to me all this time later.

The bio of my oldest account had little to no intention of ever crossing the path I am on today, stating:

I listen to mostly hip-hop, I rate things based off of my enjoyment 90% of the time

I'm not good with words meaning I am not good at writing reviews sorry

But my view on my writing abilities changed, and it would forever change who I am and the path I want to pursue.

My current AOTY bio (@vivi) reads:

Lover of almost all genres!

I am thankful for every shout, every comment, every like, and every follow. I acknowledge it all and I appreciate it all! <3

I rate/review every album I listen to

Ratings are based on both enjoyment and artistry of a project a ton of the time - I might not love something but I can appreciate any artistry

I do SUPER long reviews if I have a lot of passion for a project + for special milestone reviews!

My mom is @MandaPanda & my dad is @WrecksOne

JANET JACKSON/JANET: DISCIPLINE

SCORE: 94/100
She has stronger albums, but this album does have some great production and tracks. Janet's vocals are great as usual, that hasn't changed, but the electronic sound of this album sounds somewhat outdated at points. I think it sounds a lot like other electronic/pop records being released from 2007-2012 ish, and it lacks a huge sense of originality. If we ignore these things, it is a fun album, I think the themes being used here were great and the lyrics were pretty good. It's not her best work, but it certainly isn't her worst either, give it a listen if you are a fan of Janet!
